Important course information
In order to comply with STCW Maritime and Coastguard Agency regulations, all delegates attending Merchant Navy courses must provide a seaman’s discharge book, passport or driving licence when attending the centre. Failure to comply with this requirement will lead to a delay in the issue of your certificate.
Validity of certificate :There is no expiry date on this certificate, but you are required to update every 5 years.
Entry Requirements
Candidates who enrol on this course must be at least 18 years old and have 6 months’ sea-time on merchant vessels (you must bring evidence of this).
If you have sea-time in another capacity, such as the Royal Navy, fishing or private yacht industry, you should have at least 12 months’ sea-time.
You must also hold a Personal Survival Techniques Certificate or Basic Training for Seafarers Certificate (or, as an alternative, have completed the Royal Navy Survival Course).
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

manage survivors and survival craft after abandoning ship

use locating devices, including communication and signalling apparatus, and pyrotechnics
